Horizon Information Portal (HIP) Instructions

The instructions for using the library's online catalog, Horizon Information Portal (HIP).

Using HIP

Learn to use the Horizon Information Portal to search the library catalog.


The Horizon Information Portal (HIP) allows you to search the holdings of all libraries in the Rolling Prairie Library System. You will need your library card and a PIN. Your PIN should be the last 4 numbers of your account number.   If you do not have a PIN for your account, call the library at (217) 763-5001 and we can set one up for you, it only takes a minute.

To Login:

  1. On the home page, click the HIP icon.       
  2. When the search page appears, click the "Login" link at the upper right hand corner of the screen
  3. Enter your Library Card number and your PIN.

Once you are logged in you may order new materials, renew materials you already have out, or create a list of materials you may want to order in the future.

To Order Materials:

  1. Login to HIP
  2. Select Search criteria. (Author, Title, Subject, Keyword, etc.)
  3. Click on the title of the material you want.
  4. Click the "Request a Copy" button.
  5. When the Request Confirmation page comes up, be sure to select "Hope Welty PLD, Cerro Gordo" as the location to pick up the material.
  6. Click "Request"

    To Renew Materials:
  1. Login to HIP
  2. Click the "My Account" tab. (The center tab at top of the page.)
  3. When the Account Overview screen comes up, click the "Checked Out" link at the top of the page.
  4. Select the checkbox next to the item you want to renew.
  5. Click the "Renew" button.
  6. Please note, not all items may be available for renewal. If unable to renew an item online, please call the library at (217) 763-5001.

To create a list:

  1. Login to HIP
  2. Select Search criteria. (Author, Title, Subject, Keyword, etc.)
  3. Click the "Add to my list" button.
  4. To view your list, click the "My List" link at the top of the page.
