How can I become a trustee for the library?

Document Actions

These are the steps to becoming a trustee at Hope Welty Public Library.

Trustees of the Hope Welty Public Library serve staggered 6-year terms.  They are voted in during the General Elections in April in odd-numbered years.  In order to run for the board, you must pick up an election packet from the library director or the Piatt County Clerk's office during November prior to the April election.  This packet will contain petition sheets which should be filled out with signatures of registered voters.  The paperwork should then be bought to the library director's office before the stated deadline, sometime in December, and will then be filed with the county clerk in order to have your name on the ballet for the April election.  Petitioners must live in the Hope Welty Public Library District.  In the case of a trustee vacancy between elections, the current board of trustees can appoint a replacement until the next election.  For more information, contact the library director.
