Your Library Card

Getting a card, renewing materials, placing holds, etc.

Who can get a card
Public library services are available to all residents that live in the Hope Welty Public Library district.  All Illinois library cards are honored at Hope Welty Public Library.  The district boundaries include all of Cerro Gordo Township, all but the western-most piece of Oakley Township, and part of Long Creek Township.  This includes Cerro Gordo, Milmine, La Place, Casner, Oakley, and Lintner.

Non-residence fees
Hope Welty Public Library does not issue non-residence cards.

How to Get Your Card
It does not cost any money to get a library card, but we will need to see your driver's license and one other item that has your current street address (PO Box only will not be acceptable).  Examples are: driver's license, voter's registration card, tax bill, mail, and pre-printed checks.  Parents may apply for a library card for their children entering first grade and up.

Borrowing Limits
You may check out up to 10 books and 5 magazines per library card.  Our videos are limited to 4 per family.  Books are checked out for 2 week periods; magazines, videos and video games are checked out for a 1 week period.  Some borrowing periods may be shorter for new releases.

Placing Holds
If an item is not available, the circulation clerk can put your name down requesting that item.  When the item comes in, we will call you to let you know.  We will leave the item on the hold shelf for 7 working days before it is returned or passed on to the next requester.

Renewing Your Borrowed Items
You may call the library any time to request a renewal on your items.  We ask that you leave your name, phone number and item to be renewed.  We can renew your items one time only if there are no holds on the item, otherwise you may not renew.  You may also renew your items online in HIP or in the library in person.

Library Fines
Fines on overdue books and magazines are ten cents a day.  Fines for videos and video games are $1 per day.  These fines can add up quickly, so please be prudent in returning items.
